This engaging history session focuses on the history of the community of Brentwood, Northern California, for post-1970 new residents. We will explore the history of the area from 1830 settlement by pioneer, Dr. John Marsh and early 1900 agribusiness development by Balfour, Guthrie & Company, to post-WWII family farming, and city incorporation. Course topic areas include Native Americans, Spanish/Mexican period settlement, John Marsh, agriculture, Balfour, Guthrie & Co., architecture and modern City. We will glimpse community life in the San Joaquin Delta farmland prior to late 20th century tract home development and the 90-minute commute.
