#: 100    ID: PSM    Section: 01
product
Description:
This is a “Road Trip” course involving personal vehicles and carpooling. Students and instructor leave the LMC Brentwood Center at 8:00 am on the last Saturday of the month with a Delta historical destination in mind. Historical narrative or context provided by the instructor enroute to destination via cell, speaker phone, conference call.

The 3-hour class ends with either a “brown bag” picnic lunch or historic restaurant lunch at or near a historic landmark or park. Proof of automobile insurance required. “Release and Agreement to Hold Harmless” to be completed by each participant.

The largest mineral “strike” in California after the Gold Rush was the discovery of coal in the Mt. Diablo foothills just south of Antioch and Pittsburg. Placer gold can be picked up off the ground. Hard-rock mining the vast Comstock Lode, Nevada, requires machinery.  And for that hot, coal-fired furnaces are required for manufacturing cast iron engines, rock batteries, monitors, and water pumps.
Join us as we motor to Somersville, Judsonville, Stewartville and Black Diamond all in the custodianship of the East Bay Regional Park to take first-hand look. Picnic or luncheon at the “Plymouth Rock” of Antioch that is Smith’s Landing.
