Pre-1949 Californios living in Alta California – Genealogía
#: 100    ID: PCL    Section: 01
product
Description:
Our ancestors are still amongst us. The great Spanish Explorer Juan Bautista DeAnza dropped off settlers in today’s eastern Contra Costa County as his expedition traveled through our area in 1776. Spanish settlers traveled to Alta California as it was known at the time for the same reasons passengers came to North America on the Mayflower. While Thomas Jefferson was penning the Declaration of Independence, immigrants from New Spain, encouraged by the Spanish King Charles III, discovered paradise in today’s Pittsburg, Antioch, and Oakley! Genealogists can trace many local families as descendants from these intrepid colonists dating their California experience over 8 to 10 generations.
