Description:
The Golden Age of Postcards brought the nation closer together at the turn of the 20th Century. Advances in color printing technology developed in Germany brought beautiful Christmas and other holiday greeting for just penny postage anywhere in the United States. Itinerant photographers exposed homestead images and sold real photo postcards (“RPP”) ensuring the folks back home could see first-hand the success realized in the West. Valentines and postcards professing love and courtship played their part, too. Receipt of a “postal” was highly anticipated and saved in albums. How quickly the romance of these cards and German collotype/ambrotype color card production ended as Europe went to war in 1914.
