Description:
The California Delta has played the role of “stand-in” since early silent movie days. Production costs too expensive to film The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn (1939) along the Mississippi River? The San Joaquin River near Bethel Island will happily “stand-in” for the role. Two sternwheel riverboats needed for a staged race to New Orleans in Steamboat Round the Bend (1935) but none exist along the Mississippi? Again, the California Delta has both side and sternwheel riverboats plying the Sacramento River for passenger travel up to the outbreak of WWII.  Director Clint Eastwood requires a true western backdrop for his depression era comedy-musical, Honkeytonk Man (1982)? Where better than Bird’s Landing across the river from Antioch? Join us as we explore on-site film locations along the California Delta.
