Local author, Dan Hanel, will share a multimedia presentation about Winehaven, once the world’s largest winery. The Winehaven castle rose from the ashes of the Great Earthquake of 1906. Learn about its role during the California wine wars of the early 1900s.Contra Costa County’s once-thriving wine industry will be explored, from the California Wine Association’s wealthy financier, Percy Morgan, to the struggles of Chinese immigrant field laborers. Tales will be told about secret underground tunnels and mysterious Chinese bone boxes. And what of the great Winehaven castle today? Dan will give an update on its current status along with connections to his fourth historical mystery novel – Beneath the Tangled Vines.
