Description:
Local author, Dan Hanel, will share a multimedia presentation about Black Diamond Mines. Populated by Welsh coal miners during the late 1800s, Nortonville became Contra Costa County’s largest town. Learn how tombstones in Rose-Hill cemetery still show evidence of connections to mystic symbols and secret societies.Historic threads are explored that link the area to some of North America’s first Europeans, as well as an ancient Greek philosopher from 600 B.C. Attendees will learn about some of the town’s past residents, including the backbreaking work of young knobbers and midwife extraordinaire, Sarah Norton. Stories about tragic deaths, the legend of the White Witch, and even King Arthur, will be shared as they relate to Dan’s third historical mystery novel – Ghosts of Black Diamond.
