Local author, Dan Hanel, will share a multimedia presentation on the many lives of the Byron Hot Springs Resort. During the early 20th century, the hotel in far east Contra Costa County was the most famous resort in the western U.S. Known for its healing waters, guests came from all over, including many rich and famous of the time. During WWII, the resort was transformed by the U.S. Army into a secret interrogation center. Later,the resort became a spiritual retreat for the Greek Orthodox Church. And what has become of the famous property today? Dan will share the resort’s fascinating history and how that history became the subject of his second historical mystery novel – Death at the Healing Waters.
