Local author, Dan Hanel, will share a multimedia presentation about the fascinating history of John Marsh and his Great Stone House. Marsh, California’s first doctor and the first American to settle in Contra Costa County, was murdered in 1856. As one of the state’s wealthiest men, could his tragic death have anything to do with the legend of hidden gold? You’ll also learn the about the remarkable John Marsh Stone House and current restoration efforts working to bring it back to life. Now part of the CA State Park system, the house and surrounding land have their own tales to tell. Finally, Dan will describe how he wove the real-life people, places, and events from this intriguing Contra Costa County history into a modern-day murder mystery novel – Mystery of the Great Stone House.
